Flick it just right

Daily writing prompt
What’s your favorite game (card, board, video, etc.)? Why?

If there’s one game that dominated my childhood, I’d say it was crokinole.

This prompt has been a great reminder that I actually don’t own a crokinole board and need to get one.

If you don’t know crokinole, picture curling, but not on ice, on wood. And it’s way way scaled down or else you’re a giant, and it’s little wooden checkers that you’re flicking into holes, with either your thumb and first finger or thumb and middle finger.

Yes, flicking.

The strength of your flicking controls how fast the checker goes and if you flick too hard, it blows right over the hole to the other side. (The hole is in the middle, kind of like a bull’s eye).

You also have to flick in the right direction, on a perfect angle sometimes.

    1. Oh really?! It’s funny how you just assume that what you grow up with is the norm, I assumed crokinole was as universal as Monopoly lol

  3. Never heard of this either, maybe it IS a Canadian thing. The only thing similar we had was ‘Test Match’, a cricket board game:

Kids from the street would go to each others houses to play, it seemed everyone had it.
