In the first decade of the 2000’s when I was working as a nurse in a Clinic I’d play radio stations through the computer in my office.
Some type of hits station, current hits, oldies hits, rock hits, pop hits…didn’t matter. But then, those pesky IT guys caught onto it. And it wasn’t just me, obviously, all of us did it. They whined about the bandwidth or some boring thing like that and before we knew it, BAM! Radio stations were blocked.
As though Kim Jong-il himself took a stroll through the place and laid down the law.
Nowadays I’m a college instructor and so, no, I don’t play music in the classroom. It’s hard enough to get the students engaged with some of the more boring content, such as the history of healthcare in Canada. I imagine music would be too much of a distraction.
But I could be wrong.
At home, my background music includes the theme songs for Bluey, Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig etc. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
I’ll be the last person left on earth who hasn’t heard a podcast. Can think of nothing more irritating than someone talking in my ear.
I’m getting to that age where silence is okay too, never ever thought I’d say it but it’s true. I remember being a teenager and coming home to find Mom in the house, making supper or just sitting on the couch with a magazine or reading a book. In silence.
I’d say oh my god Mom, put on some background music, it’s too quiet in here.
Now I get it. I’m guess I’m old.
