Here we are

Daily writing prompt
Why do you blog?

I don’t know, I have some pure reasons but also some selfish reasons. In the words of Jay Shetty, my monk mind is at work but so is my monkey mind.

I do write for me, yet I love the attention.

As I’ve said before, when I started this blog in January of 2024, I really had no idea what blogging was all about. And the very odd time when I tell people I have a blog, they get excited and think it’s one of THOSE blogs. Then I reassure them they aren’t missing much and it’s actually super boring.

The one thing I never expected from this blog was the community. You guys are my friends. I really feel that way. I know some of you better than others, either way I value the friendships. I love that I have writing in common with so many people. In my real life, I’ve really only known three other people who also write.

I remember the first couple of times I posted something, I couldn’t believe three or four people actually read it! Was such a little thrill.

Now I’m hoping to very soon hit one thousand subscribers and that blows my mind.

I love you guys.

Oh, so back to the question, I used to write a bit for our local newspaper and when it shut down I needed something to replace it. An outlet for writing.

Here we are.

  1. I feel the same way. I never thought of this as being anything more than a journal. However I have found many friends who share the same likes as me. Early on this blog was all about me, my life, and my troubles. As I worked through things, I shared movies, music, and books, too. Technically, those things are still “me” because they are things I like.

I have come to look forward to the blogs I read on a daily basis. I am always interested in what my friends are up to.

    I’m glad you are here.

  2. you’re the best kind of blogger CJ. you write, and you engage but also your writing is not performative compared to what the rest of social media is today.

I was just on twitter (or x) this morning scanning the news and I remember you also re-opened your x account for it. I also remembered you saying it was sad that it was your best bet for objective news and I totally agree. I was also lamenting it this morning. Mike

Really crazy how hard it is to find “good” news these days, and i don’t mean happy stories, i mean objective and interesting!

  4. My thoughts exactly. “I do write for me, yet I love the attention.” Because the attention is motivating. And for all the talk of how online friendships or connecting is not the same as IRL relationships (which may be true), when I dropped off of blogging, I genuinely missed the other writers who commented on my posts and whose blogs I commented on.

    1. Yeah you’re right, the attention is motivating, well put. As I wrote it I wondered if i’d be judged for admitting so lol.
The community here and the relationships are real! It feels good to belong.
Thanks so much for reading 😌
