A starting point

Daily writing prompt
What’s your #1 priority tomorrow?

Tomorrow is actually a stat holiday, to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, or “Orange Shirt Day” as it’s known.

I don’t really have time this morning to get into the story behind Orange Shirt Day but I do feel it’s important to not just use the day as a day off, but to reflect on and gain knowledge about Truth and Reconciliation and what that really means.

One of the big projects for the course I’m taking involves learning about and trying to figure out how to Indigenize curricula, so I’m happy to say I’ve been learning more about decolonization. And lots more to learn.

Sid on Orange Shirt Day – 2022, 2023, 2024, will take this year’s photo either today or tomorrow

  1. I did not realize that the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was a holiday in Manitoba or anywhere in Canada. It isn’t a stat holiday in Ontario.

  2. I wish we celebrated it here but slowly all the holidays are being taken away.

  3. Wow, the little one is growing fast. Yeah, the residential school system was horrendous. Who thought that was a good idea, especially within the Christian community, is beyond me. The treatment of indigenous people was terrible. In Puerto Rico, the Spanish conquistadors eliminated all the Taíno Indians in short order by forcing them into hard labor to extract gold. It’s important to study these matters in the hope that we don’t repeat them.
