Eagles songs

Daily writing prompt
When you think of the word “successful,” who’s the first person that comes to mind and why?

To me, success is like a cogwheel and it’s very difficult and maybe even impossible to make every nub fit how it should.

There’s job success, there’s success in relationships, success in the bedroom, success in the kitchen. Parenting success, student success. Financial success.

I teach my students about holistic health and I see success as being similar to that. You might have one or three areas down pat but without that fourth or fifth area thriving, are you really successful?

I suppose if I had to narrow it down and pinpoint ONE area that I saw as the truest of successes, it would be success of the mind. Someone who has their thoughts under control, who can sit with themselves and feel fulfilled and satisfied. That’s not to say they’ve never had these kinds of struggles, but they’ve figured it out, or are figuring it out.

Those who can be still.

My workplace Tues am, so pretty but please go away snow!

  1. i like that definition CJ. people often try to copy the solid indicators of other people’s success but they fail to remember that what’s in a person’s mind is what ultimately produces those solid indicators. and even if they are copied, they are only copied at that flashpoint and not in any sustainable way. 2. This is the part I really identified with:

“success of the mind. Someone who has their thoughts under control, who can sit with themselves and feel fulfilled and satisfied. That’s not to say they’ve never had these kinds of struggles, but they’ve figured it out, or are figuring it out. Those who can be still.”

I’ve tried to meditate and I don’t think I’m getting anywhere. And then I read about meditation and there are so may variations, and so much stuff to read and process that it just gets overwhelming which leads to the exact opposite of stillness. Or calm. 😦

And what’s the deal with all that snow?!?

    1. What about starting with some controlled breathing? I do inhale for 4 seconds, pushing stomach out as i inhale then hold for 7 secs then exhale for 8, pushing air out right from bottom of belly and so sucking it in sort of.
Yeah the snow sucks!!! Hopefully it all melts Michael B. Fishman!

      1. I’ll try that breathing routine. I’ve tried box breathing and inhale/hold/exhale/hold each for four seconds and I didn’t like it too much. Yours is slower though and that’s nice. I hope it melts as well!

  4. Yes, funny you conjure up a cogwhweel when you think of success, but yeah, there are so many aspects. Being aneamic on one side of your wheel can make you totally unsuccessful, so you’re sort of saying being a rounded person is success. I think I agree 🙂

      2. Wellll it actually has almost completely melted!! I was in the city all wknd where it’s like nice fall time, orange leaves ‘n so so temps! (In the city is how we say we were in Winnipeg lol, we don’t have too many cities so anytime someone says they went to the city it means Winnipeg) 😅

      3. Yeah, seems a long way to “The City” though, but I understand. I thought you Canadians would be logrolling all the way to Winnipeg (or back) 😉 Most country people here would call Melbourne “The Big Smoke”, but sometimes “The City” which for my parents was 4 hours away. Sydney was about 7 hours away but it’s never mentioned that way. For us Melbournians, we still “go to the city”, which I think you guys might call Downtown, or technically, we call the CBD (Central Business District). Words huh.

And while in the city I invested in a brand new hybrid log, reallly nice ride (i mean roll) all the way home!
