Normalcy

What is a food you like that many people don’t like? (Prompt courtesy: https://thecoffeemonsterzco.com/en-ca/blogs/midnight-blogging/journaling-prompts)

There are a couple of foods that I love but most others don’t.

The first is a green olive and Cheese Whiz sandwich. Don’t knock it til you try it!

The second is a peanut butter and cucumber sandwich. I saw my Dad eat this while growing up and assumed it was a normal thing to eat and that everyone ate it.

Came to find out later that actually no, it’s not very common and people generally find it an odd combination.

  1. i am a green olives fanatic and i’ve never heard of this combination. i will try it. how do you prepare it? i’m assuming you slice the olives flat and apply it on top of the cheese whiz right? it’s been years since I’ve had cheez whiz! Mike

  4. These are interesting to say the least! It’s not unusual for us to have peanut butter and cucumbers on hand. I’ll give that one a try. Olives and cheese whiz we never have. Maybe one day I’ll add it to the list if I’m feeling adventurous!

  5. Oh, I’ll have to try, but I’m not sure we have Cheese-wiz here, but I love a late night olive and salami!

You probably can’t find Vegemite, but the Vegemite and Walnut sandwhich won an award for best sandwich in the Womens Weekly magazine way back around 1945. My dad always loved it and sometimes I keep up the tradition 🙂

    1. No we don’t have Vegemite here but my daughter tried it the other day…I won’t repeat the words she used to describe it but let’s just say she wasn’t a fan lol

      1. Yes, it’s something you need to be brough up on… almost, but we have it in very small doses, and offset by butter and toast. I can’t eat a teaspoon if that’s what she tried.
