Serenity

There’s so much to think about this time of year. Endings, beginnings. The start, the end. The old, the new. What’s behind, what’s yet to come.

As someone who spent most of my life unknowingly obsessed with not the present, but constantly looking forward or ruminating about the past, I’m right in my comfort zone. I’m climbing out of it, I am. But it is so so comfortable to simultaneously think back on 2025 while also looking forward to what 2026 could be.

And anyway, it’s what we do this time of year, isn’t it?

This time of year the sun doesn’t rise until 9:01 am. As it was coming up this morning, the view out my living room window was incredible. I’ll try and describe it since I didn’t take a photo.

Picture the snow so deeply yet brightly white it was almost glowing. The sky was a dark, deep, velvety blue. Winter is so beautiful and serene.

  1. A 9am sunrise sounds interesting. I’d be able to watch the sunrise every morning fully caffeinated. I’d like that.

    1. It’s interesting lol…i’ll be glad when it rolls back a bit though, it’s much easier to wake up with the sun. Getting up and waiting hours for the sun to come up, four hours if i get up at 5!!! Makes for a long day lol

  3. I did Gym at 7:30am this morning because it was going to get hot quick, 25 by 9am, but only 35 so not too bad in the end. And my grass is still green in the back yard, it’s normally yellow by now. This summer is El Nino, where Australia gets more rain than usual, so I’m not complaining! La Nina is the opposite, where we get less rainfall in those years, and is usually when all the fires happen.

    1. Crazy! Our feels like temp rn as i type this is -35.
I guess it’s much better to have the rain yes!! Those fires are scary and the smoke that covers the sky sucks, kind of ruins summer.

      1. Bit more scarier for you being in a town, in the city I think we’re okay, but I’d hate to be in the middle of the bush!

  4. This time of the year is always a good opportunity to reflect, use our hindsight to have a better foresight of what’s coming. The thought of new beginnings in the new year never escapes my mind.
