If you like pina coladas

A lot of randomness in my head this morning:

First of all, TGIF. Anyone else feel almost guilty when you can work from home, knowing your coworkers who work in other areas are not able to?

My work friends are not really the other instructors in the Faculty of Health. My cubicle is right in the mix of the LTF’s, Learning Technology Facilitators, so they are who I share jokes with, talk about what we did on the weekend with, etc. But they are not able to work from home, their work is directly at work. So I feel kind of bad that they’re there slaving away while I’m at home.

Of course I am still working and honestly, with less interruptions, at home I am more productive. Still, I can’t help but feel guilty. Why does guilt have to follow me everywhere I go.

I can’t believe what’s going on in the US. I actually watched the news last night for the first time in a long time. It’s very depressing. I do not understand how Trump is allowed to do what he’s doing. I can’t fathom why anyone would have voted for him in the first place. It’s scary. It makes me really sad. Actual Gestapo. On the streets. Unbelievable.

I’ve never been so happy to live in Canada.

Anyyyyway. My beef this morning is with Chatbooks. I’ve subscribed to this monthly photobook service since the first month Sid came to us I think. So three and a half years. It costed $20 US a month. Not bad. But yesterday I received an email saying the monthly cost was going up to $32! That’s insane! Of course I’ll still keep getting them cause, you know, Sid. But yeah, crazy expensive.

I have to make a correction on yesterday’s post. I had said that the main character in Love and Death was either Mary Kate or Ashley Olsen but it’s actually their younger sister Elizabeth.

The show renewed my love for seventies music so that’s what I am listening to right now.

This was the first Chatbook, Volume 1/42

  2. Re: why anyone would have voted for that monstrosity that’s currently occupying the White House, be glad you didn’t go to school with those voters. It makes me wonder if I ever really knew my high school classmates. Be glad you’re living in Canada!

And when you finish Love and Death, you may be interested to know there was another mini-series called Candy that was made about the same time that covers the same events.

  5. I’m working on letting go of guilt too. It serves no purpose. We need to choose ourselves and let it go.

  6. It’s impossibly hard, CJ. One on one, most people in the US can be incredibly kind, so how DO they reconcile farming out monstrous choices and empowering cruel and violence-hungry ‘leaders’ like we have now? There’s a disconnect of personas, with online cultures feeding latent fearful ‘survival’ instincts until they begin to win over. Most sane people I know feel somewhat powerless, with rage spilling out here and there, because the system of healthcare being tied into employment, etc. means it’s much harder to demonstrate in masses in the same way people do in various countries. We have all the dots but can’t effectively put them together well enough, and the current Democratic party leadership has to make way for younger people who will make strong cases and inspire. Sorry for the rant.

      1. Yes, mostly, but I’m glad the rest of the world is paying attention and I hope learning how this happens, seeing how it can happen anywhere. He’s going to keep doing outrageous things and people have to stop making permission structures for him, making reasonable the outrageous. 😦

      2. It’s hard to find the balance between just being aware and actually allowing it to affect one’s mental health…and I say that from way up here in the northern part of Canada…I’m actually shocked that not every American blogger ISN’T writing about this right now…to me, it’s HUGE. As I said to Rojie, in my eyes it’s comparable to the dystopian world of A Handmaid’s Tale…and I say that without exaggeration. So yeah, back in my bubble I’ll go I guess.

      3. Absolutely. I think the reason for not writing much is the feeling that (excuse my french) we’re pissing into the wind and maybe even contaminating spaces that aren’t already consumed by world events. Bubbles feel endangered.
