Bathed in love

What is your favourite day of the entire year? (Prompt courtesy: https://thecoffeemonsterzco.com/en-ca/blogs/midnight-blogging/journaling-prompts)

Oh this is easy. My favourite day is Mother’s Day. Not Christmas, not my birthday, not Thanksgiving, it’s Mother’s Day.

I spend most of the morning in bed on Mother’s Day, bathed in this feeling of love and joy. My blood vessels are oxygenated with love.

It’s all around me, on this day. Even if only two of my four kids are there, it just seeps into me. This feeling of having done something so powerful and feeling so much pride.

It can be emotional for me, which is shocking, considering I’m not really an emotional person.

I have coffee in bed, breakfast in bed. I pour over alllll of my photo albums in bed. I snack on chocolate and other treats in bed. Sometimes there are flowers delivered to me in bed.

But it’s not about the treats or gifts or attention on me. It’s this almost holy kind of feeling inside of me. These kids. I’m their Mom. There’s nothing like it. It’s a feeling that can’t actually be described with words.

I haven’t a bond with anyone the way I do with my kids.

Oh these were the days, Taz & Bella-Lena all suited up to try rollerblading, I can see just the edge of the baby stroller where baby Cordelia was…life was so busy, 2007

  2. This is good, my friend. Kids at that age have so much energy, and with everything else going on in life, I can definitely see how busy you must have been. And yet, here you are, almost 20 years later, full of life.

  3. I’ve written a couple times on my blog about the advance difference in the way, people treat Mother’s Day as opposed to how to treat Father’s Day

      1. I don’t want to sound like a whiny dad, but I do think that we, collectively, place a greater value on Mother’s Day than we do Father’s Day.

Maybe it’s because Father’s Day has to “share the stage” with high school graduations. I’m not really sure.
