Half truths

Daily writing prompt
What strategies do you use to cope with negative feelings?

Well this is a great question and I’m interested to read others’ responses and get some new ideas on how to deal with negative feelings.

Yesterday we went out into nature, even though the temps weren’t favourable. I think the high yesterday afternoon was -22 Celsius but the wind was biting so it probably felt more like -26ish.

But there’s something about walking on the earth, (well the snow in my case), and being in the sunshine that soothes the soul. We keep our ice fishing shack on the lake and it’s situated just a quick walk to a little island. Sid loves making that trek to pick some sticks, especially by himself because he feels like a really big boy when he does.

Yesterday there were no fresh tracks to the bush so I offered to go with him and walk ahead to break the trail. The snow was so deep I was sinking past my knees. And that’s just the fresh fallen snow on top of the hard packed older snow. It was quite the workout.

It’s a great way to spend the afternoon, sitting there fishing and drinking freshly boiled coffee. Of course it helps when I catch the most and the biggest fish.

We just can’t tell Sid that. He’s already a competitive fisherman and so we had to pretend his fish was bigger. I told Clint he’s already getting good at these fishing stories that are half truths.

When Clint asked Sid what he wanted to snack on for the afternoon Sid picked KFC lol

He wanted me to make a boomerang on IG of him falling backwards in the snow lol

  1. beautiful photos CJ – thank you for sharing.

as for negative feelings, I just prefer to look at it like a livestock water tank and soak myself in it. I figure to keep myself in there and let all the emotions wash over me until I find some clarity and perspective and then I get out. Mike

    1. Livestock water tank, now that’s lingo i can understand mike lol
That’s a great analogy too, sometimes you just gotta let it come. And stay a bit. I get really caught up in ruminating sometimes though and that’s not a place i wanna be.

      1. i hear you! i personally think that it’s a good thing to think on it. but like everything there is an expiration date and the trick is to have a sense of knowing when it’s too much too long. tbh, it’s still a conscious effort for me after all this time. happy sunday! πŸ™‚

  4. When I was sid’s age I always caught the bigger fish. That’s 100% fact. So in Sid’s case he absolutely caught the bigger fish. (Shhh….don’t tell him about fishing luck when you get older. πŸ™‚
