Small wins

What is a small (or big) win you had this week? (Prompt thanks to: Just Rojie)

This sounds pathetic especially considering I had planned to walk every single day no matter how cold it was, I mean allll winter, but I finally walked to work one day last week. One day. But it’s a start.

Now that the temps are warming up, I have no excuses, well other than deep snow. This week I vow to walk at least three of the days.

The other tick mark off my list of to-do’s was I contacted a realtor and now have my rental property on the market to sell. Years ago, if I heard someone had a “rental property”, I would have assumed wow, great money maker! But no, it’s not like that.

I bought the house to live in, myself and the kids when I was single and on my own. Of course I was super proud to have made that purchase completely independent of anyone else, but back in 2014 the housing market was quite different than it is now.

So here’s the thing, prices were high then, prices are low now. Considering that and what I still owe, I won’t pocket much money from it.

I’ve been fortunate enough to always have really great tenants renting from me however when it comes to tax season, because the rent is considered income, I end up paying the tax man dearly. And I hate that. It sucks.

I can’t see the housing market take off and boom again up here, so that’s why I’m getting out now.

  1. The market is up where I am so it’s good at the moment, I was thinking of buying a 2nd property and renting put but I’ll see. Nice day to you!

these are great wins CJ. I got out of my final rental unit deal in October of 2022 and I have not looked back ever since. I may write about it one day but its safe to say I had a mixed bag with being a rental investor over the years. I hope that you get a sizeable chunk of $$$ after all the fees have been paid though – crossing my fingers. Mike

  3. Way to go! (they say walking is the best exercise). And I know how hard it is to get out there when it’s cold.

  6. I envisioned myself walking in the cold, but only two days ago did I walk to and from work again, due to ample sunshine. πŸ™‚

Sounds like it was time to ease the burden of those yearly taxes and channel energies into blooming where you’re planted. ; )

  7. Congrats on walking to work! I think that’s so cool. Wish I could go it.

They call investment properties a passive income investment. It can be anything than passive sometimes and could be a big headache. Hope you get a good deal!

    1. Yes i feel so grateful that i can walk to and from, each way only takes me 9 minutes!
With the house, i spose i should just be happy i’ve had renters in it these last 5 years to pay down the mortgage, somewhat. But will be a relief to wash my hands of it!
