Land of milk ‘n honey

Thanks to Just Rojie for the April prompts

If you could talk to an ancestor for 10 minutes, what would you ask?

Although all of my great grandparents emigrated to Canada at some point, I would probably choose my Dad’s grandparents to chat with, if I could.

They came here from what was Austrian Galicia, (I think) somewhere around 1905.

If I had only ten minutes to spend with them I would want to know why they left their homes and came to Canada. Like obviously they moved here for a better life but I want to know specifically what their life was like there. What type of home they had, what they ate, and the specific struggles they faced.

And then a quick rundown of what the voyage was like coming across the Atlantic Ocean. Were they sick, was it crowded, how did they pay for the voyage, why did they choose Canada, how many days did it take etc.

My sisters & I with our paternal grandparents, my bday

  1. Wouldn’t that be such a story to tell. You should research that era and location and write a book about their imagined journey… hugs

  2. Those are some really good questions. I’m sure there is a great story behind that journey from Europe, with so many lessons to learn.
