Just more oxytocin

How is your life different from one year ago? (Thank you Rojie!)

The major difference in my life right now as compared to a year ago is the baby we’ve had in our care.

A year ago I never imagined taking in a small baby and doing all the things that go along with that. For the most part I was sleeping through the night a year ago. Besides the nights I woke up at 3 am and my mind wanted to solve all of the problems of the world before it went back to sleep.

Nowadays I pretty much always have an interruption in my sleep to take my “shift”, getting up with the baby, warming up the bottle and changing his diaper before going back to bed. Cordelia does the first part of the night and I do the second.

Our house is fuller than it was a year ago as now we have a playpen and a baby swing in the kitchen, stroller and extra car seat plus exersaucer in the basement and other various baby items around like the bottle sterilizer taking up space on the kitchen counter.

We love Baby RR to pieces and though I can’t imagine him not in our lives now (he’s been with us since January 26), there are moments where I’m like wow, this is a big responsibility.

We’re not sure for how long we’ll have him, which makes every moment extra sweet but also bittersweet. Every smile we get from him lifts our moods and between Baby RR and Sid, our house is so ridiculously full of love and fun.

Not to mention the increase in the love hormone I feel when I’m holding Baby RR against me, oxytocin. It’s such a good feeling. It’s like a big sigh goes through my body and it instantly feels good and relaxed all at the same time.

Love him to pieces 😍

  3. He sure is adorable. I can see why he’s taken up a part of your heart, CJ. And yes. Babies come with a ton of equipment.

    1. People say oh it will be so sad when he has to (if he has to) leave and they say ughh I could never do what you’re doing because I’d get too attached but I say better to have loved and lost then not have loved at all and where would he be if we hadn’t taken him that day?
