SMH & SMH

What unfinished conversation with someone still echoes inside you? (Thanks for the April prompts Rojie!)

This is going to sound foolish and silly but yep, things like this really bug me.

So remember a couple of weeks ago I volunteered to be one of the judges at the Science Fair right across the street from where I live, where Sid goes to school.

The person I was partnered up with and I were both blown away by this one particular young girl’s project. Not only was the project amazing though, the way she spoke, her energy and passion about the subject also had us mesmerized. Especially for a kid in grade 5.

Well last week I happened to bump into that girl and her parents on my walk home for lunch. I said hi to her and she recognized me and I told her parents who I was and how impressed the judges ALL were with her science fair project.

Then I blurted out “she’s going to be the first female prime minister!”

Realizing only after I said goodbye and walked away that we in fact have had one female prime minister already. I really thought about trying to contact either the mom or the dad on Facebook and explain or correct myself. It bugged me for days. That they might think that I was brainless to not know we have had a female prime minister. I do know, she was Kim Campbell.

In my defence, I had completely forgotten that we had a female prime minister as she only had that designation for a few MONTHS. Less than a year. And it was back in 1993.

Anyway yep, that unfinished conversation (unfinished by me because I didn’t get the chance to tell them that I actually do know we had one previous female prime minister so in fact their cute, smart, intelligent and insanely articulate for her age daughter will be the second female prime minister) will probably haunt me always.

I think we were going to my cousin’s wedding, late 80’s? Gena & I had the same dress except mine was that ugly mustard colour so I threw on that paisley vest to juj it up! (Or so I thought)
