Lost on purpose

If you’re making a time capsule for 2026, what goes in it?

I never really bought into the whole time capsule idea. It just never made sense to me why you would hoard a few things and bury them or put them away.

Are you actually going to remember to dig this time capsule up forty or even twenty years down the road? And if you don’t, it remains wherever you’ve hidden it for eternity, so what was the point in that?

You’ve basically purposely lost these items that were supposedly of significance to you. Maybe I’m missing the mark.

Anyway, I’ll play along.

I’d put my journal in the time capsule. I often wonder as I’m writing in it each morning, will someone ever read these again? Me or my kids? When I’m dead? Will I pour over them again when I’m eighty?

Come to think of it, I’d probably print a manuscript of my WP posts to put in it as well. That way they’re forever preserved.

I would for also add something to it that would take me back to Sid, right now, this age. A drawing he brought home from Kindergarten.

Lastly, something that would remind me of Baby RR. One of his little socks or even a little size one diaper.

So happy to have some colour on me again, thank you sun!

  8. It does make you wonder how many time capsules have been forgotten or lost. Good point. Every now and then someone finds a stash of old coins buried hundreds or years ago, but I suppose we don’t have raging wars these days that killed off the buriers, and we have banks too.

  9. There have been some great projects where school kids buried a time capsule to be opened decades later. It’s amazing for today’s children to open a box filled with items left behind by a generation that is now in their 40s and 50s.
