No will

Pick up the first book you see, turn to page 9, go to line 7, fifth word. Thank you Chase for the prompt!

Well this is fun because at this moment I’m sitting in the library of our hospital, where I’ve set up my “office” and so there are books aplenty, well, aplenty-ish at my disposal.

My students are working hard, tagging along with the certified Healthcare Aides on the med/surg/peds unit, and I’m about to start writing up their mid-term evaluations.

So to answer this prompt, I walked over to the bookshelves and grabbed “The Joy of Stress” by Peter G Hanson. Looks interesting actually. Page 9, line 7, 5th word is “will” as in, ‘this will be discussed later on in the book’.

Will.

I need to act like a grown-up and make a will. The kind that people refer to when you die. I’m 49 years old. It’s probably time.

I’m not opposed to morbid topics, it’s not that. I’m fully aware of dying and death as a reality. It’s just that it sounds like a lot of work and I think you need a lawyer and that can be costly.

When will I make a will? Good question.

  1. Interesting. I might do this prompt. Also how many jokes are made about Pisew falls? The name itself is ripe for stupid jokes.

    1. Lol yes i can see why it sounds funny, there are a couple of different pronunciations for it and i call it “pish-u” falls but some people say “peesu” falls and the word is actually from the Cree language and it means “lynx”

  2. Ahh. Okay makes sense. I grew up near a town called oconomowoc a native name I forgot the lineage. A good portion of southeast Wisconsin area/population centers lakes and rivers are named after native American names.

  4. I made one with online software prompts, provided by an investment firm I use. Then took it to a motor license issuer to get it notarized for free because I have insurance there.

Might not be as good as with a lawyer, but I hope better than nothing for those left behind.

    1. Oh that’s a great idea! I actually did think of putting it all on paper myself and taking it to someone to notarize. I know there are certain instances where you simply expressing your wishes on paper is good enough. Thanks for the idea John!

  5. 49 years old is a good time to make a will, especially when you have kids. I’m pretty healthy (I think), but I was relieved to make mine. I never know when I might get hit by a bus.

    1. A bus, a plane falling from the sky, eaten by a bear, killed in a tornado (thankfully we don’t have those up here)!
