Caught up in it

If you had $1000 to spend, what would you spend it on? And you can’t put it in savings, gold, crypto, stocks, or a 401k.

If someone handed me one thousand dollars this morning and said go spend it, I’d probably head to the grocery store.

With six of us in this house, seven when Taz is home, my biggest expense is food. It’s insane how much we spend on groceries.

I’d probably spend six to seven hundred of it there, on food, which would really only be a week’s worth of meals, if even that.

Then I would go on the Facebook group called Helping One Another Thompson, and I would see who is in need and provide as much help as I can with the remaining money.

There is no shortage of places to donate money to but when I see a local person, a mom especially, in need for her kids, it tugs at my heart strings. Lately I’ve actually been staying off of that group on FB because I get caught up in it and don’t know where or how to stop.

We’re not quite the land of the midnight sun but pretty close, I took this out my bedroom window just as I crawled into bed at 10:08 pm
Borrowed from FB, I used to love this when I worked night shifts, it never really got completely pitch black outside

  1. My answer would be the same, and it’s just my son and I. I can’t imagine feeding a household right now, CJ!

  2. I don’t know how large families make it with the price of food. Even hamburger that used to be cheap is over $10 pound here. So one meal for 6-7 people would be what, 3-4 pounds or $30-$40 for just the hamburger and for just one meal? I suppose in comparison to restaurant prices it’s cheap, but still.

    1. Yessss, like nothing is really “cheap” anymore, bananas i spose…if we could live off of bananas we’d be set. Or replace meat with lentils, which i would love but certain others in this household would hate lol.
Compared to restaurant meals, yes in some ways still cheaper but then again if we order like Domino’s pizza, that is actually probably cheaper than purchasing the things needed for one meal. Plus i don’t have to make it or clean it up, it’s just super unhealthy lol

  3. i know what you mean. when it’s one or two people food costs are “costs”…but something happens when it goes beyond 4 or 5, then it becomes COSTS. i don’t know if it’s all the little filler foods in between or what but i’ve definitely seen that math play out. Mike

    1. Yes just the meals themselves are costly never mind the snacks, fresh fruit in between!
