Seven minute ordeal

What’s the last thing you do before you leave the house? And why?

The last thing I do before I leave the house is forget something. My phone, my bag, the reusable grocery bags.

It’s always something.

What I don’t do is like, check three times to make sure the taps are all turned off. My Dad used to do that. He’d always have to go back in and make sure the faucets were turned off, and tightly.

Not only that, the water pump had to quit running before we left the house. He’d actually listen for it, or make one of us listen for it if we used the washroom right before going out the door.

It was always a test of patience, going somewhere with Dad. He’d go back in, one more time, to make sure none of the taps were dripping and while in the house, use the washroom one more time and then he’d have to hangout until the pump stopped running.

That was at least a seven minute ordeal as we waited in the car to get going.

Too cute not to share, Cordelia sent this yesterday from the beach in Tofino (on the west coast of Vancouver Island), yes Baby RR’s hat is nearby lol (i sent this to a friend and she’s like where’s his hat?) 🤣
I took this of Sid the other day at Safeway, if you zoom in to the signs above the aisles you’ll see that they are in 2 languages, English & Cree (an Indigenous language very common here) and yes, Sid is Indigenous as is Baby RR

  1. Happy baby! It’s great to see the signs. Have you picked up any of the language?

    1. I know a few words but would like to know more so that i could teach it to Sid…i’ve had intentions a couple of times, keeping a dry erase board on the fridge and having a “word of the week” to teach to him (i get a coworker to help me with the pronunciation lol) so i need to get back to that. There actually is a Cree immersion school here where i thought about sending Sid so he could learn it but it’s in a sort of undesirable area of town 😬

      1. Language immersion schools are a great idea, and two of my kids went through a few years of such a program, but neither took to Spanish better than my oldest, who just hung around with her Hispanic friends. So I feel divided about them in general.

      2. Oh that’s interesting 🤔
Yeah i mean you can’t live in Thompson and NOT pick up some of the language that’s for sure ☺️

  2. I need to go through a checklist I keep on my phone before I leave the house for work, and even then I’m constantly forgetting something (usually something I forgot to put on the list). There’s just too much for an adult to keep tabs on!

      1. That’s a *very* generous way of describing me…I think most people would say I’m “less disorganized than before.”

      2. I guess there’s two ways to look at list makers, i see them as being very organized people but i suppose they also are solutions for disorganized people ☺️🤷🏻‍♀️

  5. I will always forget something too. Except, I’ll remember what I forgot and drop all my things down randomly to go grab it, then while I’m looking for it I will remember something else or get distracted, realize I have no time for this, go back to the door, realize I left all of my stuff in a random spot, and have to go looking again!

Even leaving things on hooks is not a fool-proof method for me lol. Sometimes I just make sure I have my keys and wallet in hand and hope for the best.

    1. Lol yes that’s the worst when you waste all that time and end up back at square one 🤭☺️

  6. A funny and relatable take on everyday life! We’ve all had those moments of heading out the door only to realize we forgot something important. Sometimes the last step before leaving isn’t locking the door—it’s making one final trip back inside! 😄🚪👜

  7. when I had a garage if I did not consciously say I shut the garage I would end up driving around the block to check. I always thought I forgot and left it open. It was always closed but I always thought I forgot.

    1. I’m kind of like this now when using a new recipe lol, i read the amount of something and get the measuring cup out and read the amount again and get it ready then check again before i dump it in the bowl 😂
