Do you have revenge sleep procrastination? It’s when you intentionally stay up late to have some personal time even though you know it’s going to negatively affect your sleep.
Yeah, I mean, I didn’t know it had a name but yes I do this.
I like to stay up past most everyone else’s bedtime so that I can have time to decompress.
When my three older kids, now grownups, were young, I could never fully relax until they were all in bed and I had a couple of hours to unwind. It was usually nine to eleven pm. I recall using this time to make tea and watch The Office on cable tv, (this was pre-Netflix days I think) and have a bath.
A good friend of mine used to go to bed at the same time as her kids, she let them stay up pretty late and they would go to bed together. I couldn’t believe that.
I firmly believed I’d lose my mind if I was with my kids from the second they woke up until we all went to bed together.
Then there comes that chapter in your life where the kids are staying up later than than the parents. Been there, and probably still there. Although in the evenings my three older kids are coming and going with friends etc.
As long as I can put Sid to bed and have some time to myself, I’m alright.
