Enough is too much

What’s something that your parents used to say to you that you say now?

My Dad says “enough is enough” all the time, and when I find myself saying it even in my head, I cringe.

Sometimes he used it in the context of berating us for bad behaviour and other times he used it to describe something else that was going on in his life.

I find myself wanting to use the Ukrainian word for “sit down” now and then as he used to say this to us.

My kids make fun of me for some of my common sayings which include “do I look like I just fell off a turnip truck?” and “over my dead body”. But I’m not sure where those came from.

We got out fishing yesterday, which I’m thankful for because the warm days are numbered

    1. JD from my end I just see a bunch of horizontal lines like dashes stacked on top of each other, not sure if that’s how it looks to you ☺️

  3. Cool pic. I have a bucket hat very close to yours.

It’s kind of weird in the neighborhood today. Ghost town, everyone asleep. I only saw four wild turkeys in front of someone’s house. The birds alone are awake.

    1. Thanks Rob, it’s like that here too especially Sunday mornings. The town doesn’t really wake up til after lunch usually 🤷🏻‍♀️

  4. My Ukrainian revolves around language we needed to learn when we adopted a dog whose owner only spoke Ukrainian to him.

    він був добрим собакою!

  5. Isn’t it weird? I often hear myself use some phrase that seems to come out of nowhere, but it reminds me of a parent or other family member. So it’s a good thing.

  7. My Dad, bless his soul, had many old sayings, one of my favourites when referring to being a parent was “ remember we have all been there and done it so don’t be a parent that says “don’t do as I did but do as I say “. Children need to learn from experience.

  9. You’re right about the warm days. When I went out for a walk this morning I came back in and got a jacket to wear because it was only 61 (that’s 16 for you!) out. It’s weird to say “only” because in another few months it’ll be about 61 degrees colder (-17 for you). With our two countries at war now I hope it’s ok for me to keep reading your blog.

  10. My mom never said that to me. She would state a rule once, and I only knew I had violated it when she hit me with her favorite leather belt. 😭🤣

  11. I think you’re aging backwards, CJ! I’m thinking of anything I say like that, and can’t come up with anything except “It’s true”, which I say so often that it’s annoying the heck out of me.

      1. I used to be an ‘amazing’ over-user, too. Now I use way too many adverbs, esp in my writing.
