What are some objects that you can’t throw away because they are a piece of you?
The kids’ baby teeth. Twenty-some years later are still in little miniature plastic treasure boxes in my underwear drawer. Between 2013 and 2020 I moved four times and each time, the teeth came along.
A blue envelope with a note from my Dad on it. Years ago when I was married to my ex-husband and my 3 older kids were small, Dad took the bus up here so that he could drive home his little truck that he had lent to us. (We no longer needed it.)
When I got up the morning he was to leave, he was already gone. But before he left he had found a pen and an envelope from some junk mail and left us a note that nearly made me cry.
The tough old farmer said something to the effect of “thanks for everything and for sharing those beautiful little kids with us, love Dad”.
I have it put away somewhere. He was a lot softer in those days, wow.
