Get wild

How do you take your coffee or tea? Or dirty soda?

Last evening after Taz, Cordelia and Baby RR got back from down south and Taz had eaten, he asked, are you guys having coffee tonight? I laughed and explained to Taz that Clint and I recently gave up our evening coffee and exchanged it for tea.

He rolled his eyes. I said yep, we’re super duper boring now. Our one vice, coffee with hazelnut creamer before bed, is gone. We rarely even have coffee in the afternoon anymore.

We don’t drink alcohol, don’t even keep any in the house. We don’t smoke pot or cigarettes. Absolutely nothing fun. At least we used to be rebels and drink coffee every night before bed but now we don’t even do that. The only reason I stopped is that I had been waking up at night, sometimes unable to go back to sleep for over an hour and then one night I missed my coffee and slept great.

I know you’re thinking, “ya think??” as in “duh”. But coffee never seemed to affect my sleep before, honest. And maybe it was a one-off but I think if I took a broader look at my quality of sleep sans coffee, it does make a difference.

So since I’ve gone off the sugar again, about three weeks ago, I now have my coffee black in the morning. I would have never thought in a million years I could stomach black coffee but I guess I’m finally a full, real, actual adult.

I mostly opt for peppermint tea or chamomile which I also drink black because I could never see adding milk/cream or sugar to herbal tea. Seems weird. I have had orange pekoe tea with milk and sugar and it’s not bad.

I did buy a milk frother recently so on the weekend I did make an afternoon homemade latte, which was pretty good. Coffee/steamed milk/foam on top and then I sprinkled some cinnamon on it. I am tempted to make a homemade brown sugar syrup to mix in for next weekend though, when I get wild again and have afternoon coffee instead of tea.

  6. I like really bitter teas at night. It feels medicinal and like I’m prepping for dreams. 🙂

    1. For some reason if I get up at 5 am I don’t experience those crazy, random and oh so vivid dreams the same way I do of I let myself sleep in til 7 or so!

      1. We tend to have the most vivid dreams right before waking. Also when people learn to lucid dream, they ‘wake back to sleep’, so getting up a bit then going back to sleep, which somehow induces the stronger/ more memorable dreams.

  8. I can never decide if changing your habits as you get older is just part of getting old or becoming boring 🤷‍♀️. I gave up caffeine 26 years ago so drink decaf tea and the occasional decaf coffee when I’m out but never at home.
We both live an alcohol free lifestyle -in my case since 2004, have never smoked and gave up takeaways in 2016, processed food in 2017 -we cook everything from scratch and this year I gave up chocolate n sweets. Am I boring? Maybe to some? Am I healthy -my recent MOT says so. Do I enjoy life -hell yes!

  9. “Coffee with hazelnut creamer before bed”? That’s like 10,000 calories right there. 😂 I drink mine black with a little sugar. I can drink it at any time, even late at night, and it won’t affect me at all. That should tell you how addicted I am to it. I’m drinking more tea also.

    1. Lol yes and it was even worse when I was drinking it with hazelnut creamer all day long!
I’m slowly getting used to black coffee, it’s not bad at all, especially first thing in the morning. I should try “a little sugar” except my body doesn’t speak that language lol

      1. Wow, that must have been around 30,000 calories then. 🤣 Half a spoonful of sugar isn’t too bad.
