The male gaze

Describe your favorite t-shirt.

For years now, I haven’t worn or barely even owned a t-shirt. I don’t think they look good on me and I don’t like how they feel over my shoulders for some reason.

I’m not a t-shirt person. About ten years ago I did try my hand at making and selling t-shirts with local sayings or slogans on them. I wore a couple of those that were leftover and never sold. The last time was about 4 years ago.

Just recently I’ve stopped dressing for the male gaze (as the saying goes), and I did purchase two oversized black t-shirts to wear with either long skirts or my bloomer pants. But honestly, it feels like a huge challenge to actually wear them. I’m not used to wearing baggy oversized clothes.

We’ll see how it goes. Both pics below are from Pinterest.

This is what I’m talkin’ about!
Love this look even more!

  2. That’s a great t-shirt in the top pic. The lacy thing under it “makes” it even better.

  3. Comfy and quirky, looks like to me. I went a long time without wearing tshirts, except for plain ones, and then all of a sudden I found them really great, esp with a jacket. 🙂

  4. They both look cute. I am not a t-shirt person either, except for concert t-shirts. More for collecting than wearing. I don’t like the typical t-shirt collar and the boxy look of t-shirts though there are more flattering options now. I gave away a lot of teacher t-shirts! Different sports, clubs, one to mark each year, and Red for Ed t-shirts. ❤️✏️

  6. Nice t-shirt in the first photo. I’m sure it’s coffee she’s drinking in both photos, so she’s already cool in my view. ☕️👍

  7. If I were a woman I wouldn’t wear either of those outfits. They look good, but I dress for no one’s gaze and hope to just blend into the background and be as invisible as possible. Those outfits would be too loud for me. I’m wondering now what would happen if I wore loud clothes.

    1. Well each to their own 🤷🏻‍♀️
I dress the way i dress but it’s likely not a blend in with the crowd situation lol

      1. I hope I didn’t sound like I was being critical of your choices? I was just thinking in terms of the stuff I wear.

  9. I didn’t realise that t-shirts are not a worldwide piece of clothing. They are a real thing here in the UK, in fact half of the bottom rail of my closet is t-shirts.
One of the biggest High Street shops lists the following choices:

    Fits and Silhouettes-
Regular Fit: Classic, easy-to-wear shapes like their popular Pure Cotton Crew Neck T-Shirt and casual V-necks.
Slim Fit / Fitted: Streamlined, body-skimming styles like the Crew Neck Soft Touch T-Shirt (designed to feel like a second skin) and cotton-rich ribbed tees.
Relaxed and Boxy Fits: Looser, casual options including relaxed-fit tees and boxy cotton styles for an off-duty look.
Oversized: Roomier cuts featuring graphic prints and slogan designs.

Necklines and SleevesNecklines: Crew necks, classic round necks, chic V-necks, and feminine scoop necks.

Sleeve Lengths: Mostly short-sleeved options, alongside sleeveless, three-quarter (3/4) sleeve, and long-sleeve variations.

You could say for those who like t-shirts we are somewhat spoiled for choice!
