It’s bliss baby

Do you think that ignorance is bliss?

I mean, I was going to say yes, but then I read some of the comments and posts of people disagreeing that ignorance is in fact bliss.

And I kind of get it. To bury your head in the sand and not take notice or take part in what’s going on can seem almost like you’re not doing your part in this world.

Those who do the worrying, the thinking, the solving, are actively participating in making changes. The ignorant live free from those chains.

So I suppose, like any answer to any prompt, there are two sides to each story. There are times or circumstances where it might actually be smarter to bury your head in the sand and not worry, live blissfully unaware. Other times, it might seem just plain ignorant to do so.

In other news, honestly, thanks in part to much of the encouragement I received here from my blogging friends, I did submit my nomination papers to run for city council!!

I’m so excited! I woke up at 3:30 am and have been awake since, my mind won’t settle. So now to do some campaigning and get my face out there!

Wednesday the snow came down all morning
Thursday it was sandals

  3. I am excited to hear all the updates for your city council campaign!

as for ignorance….yeah – there are two sides of the situation and it really is circumstantial. it’s too bad that people only pay attention when it starts to directly impact them but given the complexity that we, as people get ourselves into, I don’t blame anyone that just wants to shut the door on the world and live their lives in peace! There are 11 or 12 people running and only 7 seats 😬

  4. Congratulations on deciding to run for the city council! You’ve got my vote. I guess that doesn’t count for much but it’ll be a lot of positive thoughts to other voters up there!

  5. I can honestly say that ignoring some realities is the smart thing to do at times. Like leaving the living room when Dump comes on the TV. I don’t need to hear everything that fool says, but some people act like they don’t dare miss a word of his spewage. Like things I have no control over, like politics and events around the world. I’m interested in being educated about them, but if there’s nothing I can do … and usually there isn’t … then knowing what’s going on can drag me so far down … I really have to pick and choose how much I’m going to find about about things. Is ignorance bliss if your husband’s cheating on you? Hm. Maybe if you don’t get an STD. There’s no good answer to this question. It depends on the circumstances, doesn’t it.

  6. Congratulations on your decision and I look forward to hearing how it goes.
Is ignorance bliss? I think you can be aware of what is going on the world, for example, without reading about it all day, every day. I don’t consider myself as burying my head in the sand because I take this approach. I know what is happening but limit my exposure to it to keep myself sane!

  7. First, congratulations, my friend. I think you’re going to do an awesome job if you’re elected. “Ignorance is bliss,” until it isn’t. Then it’s too late to do anything about it except cry and try to figure out why you missed the signals. My two cents, of course.

  12. Oh, and also, I sometimes think of what it might be like to live in such a way that what matters most is the daily weather and more immediate factors. It would probably be good for we always-wired humans to have a stretch of time every year when that is possible, so we could keep perspective!
