Giving and taking

What’s one nice thing you’ve said or done this week?

For years when my three older kids were young, on their way out the door or as I dropped them off at school I’d say “do something nice for someone today”. It seems I need to take my own advice as I’m having a hard time coming up with an answer to today’s prompt.

Can I count the fact that I appeared to be pleased when I found out my in-laws would be coming up to stay for several days?

I’m kiddddddding.

Okay let me really think about this. I do try and compliment people each day. Of course I hold the door for the person coming in behind me, even if they’re a distance away, I just can’t let the door slam on someone.

I did take out cash at the atm at work on Friday to support a fundraiser for one of the other departments.

This afternoon I’m dropping off two bags of clothes to the shelter. But also, I’m going to ask them while I’m there if someone can give me a tour and explain the programs and services they offer. As a potential city councillor I need to know about such things.

So I’m giving, but I’m also taking.

Tuesday evening we had a wicked rainstorm with crazy winds and all of a sudden the lights flickered and then we lost power. We spent nearly four hours in the dark without hydro. Made for a very interesting evening lol.

  2. Well, you shared a recipe with me today, so I’d say that definitely counts as doing something nice for someone! 😊

  3. It’s probably before your time, but seeing Sid with a keyboard 🎹 reminds me of Barry in Close Encounters picking out the phrase on his toy xylophone. If I’m not wrong, the movie came out the year you were born. Doesn’t seem that long ago!

      1. I think it may be worth watching someday if you’re curious. There were two versions I knew of; the longer one takes 3-4 hours to see. I always thought they were cool. I can’t guess how your generation would perceive it. Have a nice Wednesday!

  5. i’m glad power is back to normal! yes, giving but also getting back is good. too many people give and don’t get something meaningful back or the other way around. we can’t have that!

  6. A tour of the programs and services is definitely a great idea. It’s very important for elected officials to know about those things. No power, but at least you got to listen to an awesome piano concert. 🎶😀

    1. I did the tour yesterday Edward, it was sooo cool! I’d love to work there, (if I didn’t already have a job I loved).

      1. Excellent! Now you have that experience in your “knowledge bag” that you can use when elected.
