It’s Indigenous People Day today in the U.S. What is something that you know about the Natives?
In Canada, Indigenous Peoples Day is held in June. I’m happy that it is now a recognized holiday.
I’m happy that I now know the truth about who was on this land first, (Indigenous people). And that, in fact, settlers arriving from Europe felt they knew better and were smarter and did steal the land from Indigenous people. They didn’t teach us this in school. Somehow the textbooks completely left that part out.
It’s a very sad part of history and was just the start of many injustices towards Indigenous people that, unfortunately, still spill over today.
