The chicken or the egg

What’s a song that makes you want to cry or nearly cry?

I think for me it’s more about the moment the song is in, than the actual song itself.

You wouldn’t think our national anthem “Oh Canada” would be a sappy song that could produce tears but sometimes, in that moment, especially in a large venue such as a hockey game when everyone is singing it, it gets me in the feels.

Another example is in the movie Love Actually (one of my fave all-time movies), when the wife has to continue getting ready for the kids’ Christmas concert and remain cheery, despite finding out that her husband has secretly bought jewelry for a female coworker, the Joni Mitchell song Both Sides Now comes on and oh my god, that’s made me cry more than once.

But is it the song or the movie? I guess that’s like saying which came first, the chicken or the egg.

That scene wouldn’t be the same without the song playing in the background, and then the song alone without that scene isn’t nearly as sad either.

Work selfie, this was before I sprayed the inside-of-a-microwave-popcorn-bag-yellow-stuff all over the grey in my hair
Took this on my walk to work yesterday am

  4. Gorgeous walk-to-work photo! That scene gets me every single time, too. The very end of that film is wonderful, too, well-paired with the music.

  5. you look great today Ceej and love the morning shot.

and yes! that scene in Love Actually. how insane was that? i really liked that movie and i think calling it a Christmas staple is well deserved. i just wasn’t a big fan of the Kiera Knightly storyline although it was one heck of a twist.
