If you’re happy & you know it…

How do you decompress after a busy day/holiday?

I need to decompress this morning, starting right now, after a busy weekend. I didn’t even make it here to WP to write all weekend.

Okay well that’s not actually true, I did sit on the couch yesterday morning to write but Baby RR wouldn’t leave my laptop alone. He’s so cute. He’s walking, holding onto furniture now so he was right here, pulling on the screen of my laptop and trying to push all the buttons on the keyboard. He somehow opened some app that I didn’t even know I had.

After a few minutes of trying to type and distract him with something else, I gave up, thinking I’d get back to it later but I didn’t.

It’s been pretty cold outside and we now have had white stuff on the ground for the last few days. Will it melt before it actually comes to stay? I really hope so.

As part of my city council campaigning, I attended a sort of rally yesterday morning at the Burntwood Trailer Court. There are a number of concerned citizens there who deal with flooding on the streets and water that just sits all year round in people’s yards. The streets of BTC are also not paved because apparently it’s built on very swampy land and have been told it would never support pavement/asphalt etc.

I was more than happy to be there, tsk-tsking over the city’s pretty much complete abandonment of BTC. Oh they are expected to pay taxes just like anybody else, yet they barely receive anything from the city in terms of services. It’s ridiculous.

I’m happy that there was a CBC Radio-Canada reporter there, interviewing the residents and that hopefully, they will get something done about it.

Oh and on Saturday, (although this has nothing to do with the municipal election), I found out at the last minute that I was to give a re-nomination speech at our local MLA’s nomination meeting. (Member of the Legislative Assembly). For any of you who don’t understand Canadian politics, he represents our region, which is all of northern Manitoba, provincially at the Legislature in Winnipeg.

He is a friend of mine from way back and I actually did his original nomination speech in 2022 when he ran the first time. On Saturday, I gave a quick little speech just to say that yes, I am nominating him again this time around, the provincial election is slated for 2027.

As for me, two more sleeps until the municipal election here in Thompson where 8 councillors will be selected (13 are running), 1 mayor (3 are running) and also the school board trustees, but I’m actually not sure how many there are of them.

The before & the after, Friday I went back to dark!
