In my opinion, the more personal these questions, the better.
The only surgeries I’ve had were three cesarean sections. So the exact same surgery three times. Pretty lame.
Is a c-section scary? Well yes and no. I was numbed from the waist down by an epidural and wide awake the whole time. So I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not.
Of course it’s a joyous experience, a baby coming into the world, unlike a appendectomy where a useless inflamed organ is being removed and tossed into a kidney basin.
The first c-section wasn’t as scary because I had no idea what to expect and after fifteen hours of labour, that epidural was a gift from the heavens, I could no longer feel the contractions that had attacked me all night long.
The second and third c-sections caused a lot of anxiety because I knew exactly what was about to happen.
What if the anesthetist put the catheter for the epi-morph in the wrong spot on my spine and caused me to be paralyzed? So many ridiculous thoughts entered my mind, I think it was the closest I’d ever come to having a panic attack and I contemplated asking for Lorazepam. But I got through it and thankfully everything worked out fine.
Onto other things, summer is really a wonder. I still can’t get over the fact that this world I live in that is frozen and snowy and frigid for most of the year had been replaced by warmth, heat, greenery and sunshine that feels like a grampa’s hug. It’s just so beautiful outside.
Bella-Lena and I went to the thrift store yesterday and after at least thirty minutes of pouring over the books, we came home with four. I’m so pumped.
I started one of them as soon as we got home. It was written in the 1940’s! By a Canadian author no less. It’s called As For Me and My House, by Sinclair Ross and so far, so good.
