In Versailles

What’s one lie you tell yourself? Why do you tell it? (Thank you Rojie for the prompt!)

The lie I tell myself most often is “I’ll wash my hair tonight”. Real fascinating right?

I hate washing my hair. I stopped washing it daily years ago. It dries it out immensely. Most days when I have a bath at night I just put it up so that it doesn’t even get wet.

I wash it twice a week-ish. Plus that saves me time getting ready in the morning because all I need to do is let it down, fluff it up a bit, maybe back-comb it here and there and voila, ready to go.

When I started the going-blonde process, the hair stylist told me to wash it every day. That hasn’t happened. Too much work.

Plus I only have really good hair days on day 2, 3 or even 4 after washing.

If I could go back in time I would love to have lived in Versailles in the 1700’s and have someone run my bath and wash my hair for me. What a dream.

Stole this from Bella-Lena’s private/spam IG account…3 years ago-ish

  1. Didn’t they only bathe once every 6 months in the 1700s? Even royalty didn’t bathe very often, not sure I could handle that! But I get your gist, the pampering sounds nice 🙂

      1. I just googled, it says doctors didn’t want people to bathe, it opened their pores for disease. They would wash their face in a bowl and then use lots of perfumes. It said King Louis XIV only bathed a few times in his lifetime! When I was at Shakespeare’s house they said they would put goose fat all over themselves and hardly wash at all. No wonder Werewolves would chase them around! Yeah, I like the pampering but that’s about it ;-P

      2. Id also like someone to dress me after being cleaned, dress me, slapp me on my ass, give me a travel mug of coffee and push me out of the house to go to work. Not that I can’t adult, its just work that gets me.

  4. I only wash 2ish times per week now too. Another fun thing about menopause is that your hair will thin out. You’ll find a lot more of it in the brush. It looks like you have a lot (like me) so you should be fine. But I think the less you yank on it with styling brushes and hair dryers, the better. I don’t understand your stylist’s advice.

  5. I think the French song À la claire fontaine’ is about bathing. Translated, “By the clear flowing fountain, I chanced one summer day,
The water looked so lovely, I bathed without delay”. I’d as likely get arrested for stripping down for a quick wash on a summer day, but the idea has its merits. 🛁

    1. I guess there’s always a good scrub in a river or stream too 🤭

      1. While thumbing cross the States and Canada, I was forced to try all 3. I was never one that could go more than a few days without a scrub. Perhaps if I wasn’t such a fragrant beast… ha ha.

      3. No fancy shampoo. No coconut conditioner. Lifebuoy Bar Soap and Sand to exfoliate. I could have used one of your French femmes de chambre to scrub my back. Zut Alors! 🫧
