How did your parents meet? Or your grandparents?
I think it was really only by chance that my parents met, as they lived in different provinces. My Dad was a farmer but decided to go and live for the winter (while there’s snow on the ground and no farming to be had), in Calgary with his big sis (my Aunty Janice). He found a construction type of job out there and settled in for some city living but come spring, he’d return to Manitoba.
Aunty Janice was friends with my Mom’s older sister, Sue. Mom’s parents owned a convenience store on Centre Street in Calgary, which Grampa bought after he returned from WWII. She was born and raised in the city and was in nursing school at Calgary General Hospital.
At some point, Aunty Janice (Dad’s sister), planned a party with Aunty Sue (Mom’s sister) and that’s where Mom and Dad met.
I actually don’t know the story of how my maternal grandparents met, I should ask Mom. My paternal grandparents met at a barn dance. I know that because in middle school we had to interview someone in our family and I chose either Gramma or Grampa and that’s when I learned of it. A barn dance.
