Yikes

List three or more things that make you feel alive.

I’m going to have to think hard about this prompt but while I do I wanted to mention these “badges” being handed out willy nilly by WP are getting a little silly.

This morning I received a notification that said “achievement unlocked: got carried away”, so in essence they’re congratulating me for apparently leaving a comment that was longer than the post? Be real WP. We’re not kindergarteners. We don’t need a sticker every time we move or breathe. It’s annoying.

You know what else is on my nerves right now? Other people DM’ing me to comment on posts that I “like” on social media, well specifically Instagram.

Yesterday, my daughter’s bf dm’d me a meme and put ?? there. I didn’t even know what he was talking about but my daughter asked me later why I didn’t reply, I said well I don’t understand why he sent it to me. She said that I apparently hearted the meme and her bf noticed and so then inboxed it to me with the question marks as if to say WHY would you like this post?

That drives me nuts!!! I can like any damn post I want. This particular meme was something to do with always going back to the guy you swear you’re never going to go back to. Yeah that’s not my life right now. I never said it was! I can simply like posts because I think they’re funny. Or maybe at one point in my life it applied to me or maybe a friend. Just because I like something doesn’t mean I’m living it! Uggh.

People are so annoying. One of my best friends, just now as I’m typing texts me and says why did you like Samantha’s post?? (Samantha is a sort of coworker of both of ours who posts selfies approximately 600 times a day and we sort of chuckle about it).

Anyway I replied well why wouldn’t I like her post? It was cute. She carried on with “whyyyyyyy”. Like leave me alone. I’ll like it if I want.

Don’t mind me I’m pms’ing. The other night I took a gummy for the soul purpose of NOT being cranky and pms’y but it wasn’t a great experience, story for another day.

Phew.

Going to go for a walk and burn off some steam 🙂

  2. social media, the personal social media and sometimes broad networks like LinkedIn has definitely exposed subsets of human behavior that I was NOT prepared for and it is legitimately bothersome to me! Mike

  4. I’m with you on those badges. They are annoying as hell. I’m not sure who came up with them, but they need to go away. Instead, they could spend some time coming up with options besides “likes” so readers can use different expressions. As for 600 selfies a day person, that’s a lot of self-love. 😂

      1. Definitely better than getting a badge telling me “You’re on a 32-day activity streak!” 🤦🏻‍♂️

  5. WordPress is making an enemy of itself. An annoyance, anyway. I’ve been following its directions to turn off the “You’re on a 31-day streak!” and “Look what you wrote on this day!” notices, and they keep sending them.

I’ve just caught up on your last few days of posting. I’ve never been to Thompson, but I’ve lived in Flin Flon and in Denare Beach and used to frequent the bar in Creighton in my footloose and fancy days.

I gave some thought to that prompt about what I’d say to my 20-year-old self. “Practise serious birth control that’s known to be effective, you fool” would be it.

And now to put this laptop away and get ready to go to town for a second time today. The weather sucks, but at least it’s not sweltering. I’d rather have it too cool than too hot.

Keep on writing the great posts.

  6. This is such an awesome post! “I’m going to list three things that make me feel more alive, but first let me tell you everything that’s wrong with WordPress…”

Now I’m curious about your three things!
