For now

What’s something you used to tolerate but now you no longer will?

The obvious answer is a drunk husband but Clint doesn’t really ever drink alcohol so it’s not an issue.

It’s all fine and dandy to say that I won’t “put up with” certain behaviours from people and if they continue, well then I will cut them out of my life completely but unfortunately there are times and there are people with whom it’s not realistic to do that.

I disagree with much of what my Dad says but lately it’s easier to act like I don’t have any knowledge of what he’s talking about and change the subject.

I used to love a good argument, especially with him, but now that he’s in his late 70’s, with health problems and hearing problems, I see no point in riling him up.

So in that instance, I’m actually putting up with more, (which I don’t like) but I will grin and bear it. For now.

  1. Those last two words, “For now” are kind of ominous! Butchart Gardens, is that a French name so it’s pronounced like “Boo-char”? Because otherwise it’s making me thing of a medical record the doctor keeps on the size of a person’s bottom!

    1. Ominous yes, i realized that when i proofread it lol…and don’t ask me what happens after the “for now” is over lol
I’m not even sure of the pronunciation, i was calling it butch-art and my daughter was making fun of me saying it’s boo-shart but idk 🤷🏻‍♀️

  3. My dad and I have literally run out of neutral subjects. We never agreed on politics, but Trump ended whatever chance we might’ve had to grow closer.

    1. Yeah i understand Mary, it seems the older both he and i get the wider the difference grows. Thankfully he hates Trump as well but it’s the Canadian politics we differ on! And lots of other issues 😏

  4. Can’t wait to visit those gardens! Hoping for Fall.

I think your stance is the right one. I regret arguing (even if just one comment) politics with my grandfather the last time I ever saw him. 😦

    1. Omgsh that’s awesome Stephanie! Can’t wait to hear what you think of it!
I think the younger version of me would argue to the death with no consideration of outcomes and others’ feelings but I’ve learned to just zip it sometimes 🤐

      1. Yeah, it’s not worth it unless one can see a reasonable chance of convincing, or meeting in the middle at least.

  6. Yeah, that’s the best approach with aging parents, especially if they have health issues.
