It never ends

Are we more informed than ever or more overwhelmed? Or both?

I think it is possible to walk a fine line between more informed and more overwhelmed, and find that happy medium.

I try to do this. I don’t watch the news faithfully like I used to. To be honest, I rarely watch the news on tv.

I quit Twitter when it became X.

I try to keep my time on FB and IG to a minimum although Instagram does suck me in. Facebook, to me, is crap. It’s all crap.

The only reason I keep FB is because of my non-profit, The Sidney Project. I never actually had a website built for it, just a FB page and honestly, because of where I live and how much people seem to use FB, it works. It’s where I post about the fundraisers, and really, it’s free advertising.

Also, if I quit FB I would miss most of the coming events for our community. It’s how I found out about swimming lessons for Sid. It’s where info is posted about soccer, when it’s cancelled or which field it’s on, etc.

Our community is small enough that people will post gossip on FB, and expect it will be read.

Whoever’s partner drives a black Ford F-150, it’s been parking next door for hours at a time, you’re definitely getting cheated on.

To the white Hyundai SUV who was cutting off traffic and obviously not following school zone speed limits, you’re going to kill someone.

Missing: black kitty with three white paws, no collar, slipped out the door as I was taking the garbage out, very friendly, in Burntwood area.

Does anyone in town do body piercings?

And my all-time fave: anyone else hear gunshots?

It just never ends…

Ten years ago! Cordelia was cleaning her room yesterday & found this hat, she was going to toss it into the garbage but I said no way, that’s a keepsake lol

  1. Hi CJ. I deactivated with Facebook 8 years ago to get away from my family. Facebook made it very hard to cancel; finally I called 411 to get the phone number. The guy gave me better directions for how to do it. You almost need a good excuse to deactivate your account. It’s like your social security number or something. You aren’t a citizen without Facebook.

Those FB posts are priceless. We get a lot of pics of packages misdelivered. “Does anyone know xxxx? We’ve got a package for them”

  4. gosh…that ever elusive balance.

it feels like a teeter-totter sometimes the balance is just right then it tilts to over-informed then back to just right then over-whelmed…then back to just right…

I feel like I would like just find that thing to put on the other side of the teeter totter to keep it balanced…but more often I think I prefer a gentle swing.

    1. Yes you’re so right about that, it’s so damn easy to go down a rabbit hole on social media too 😩

  5. i’m convinced that if i go to fb i will only go there for the community stuff that you outlined. its tough because i feel like, there is a real and undeniable pattern out there about what’s going on but also, nuance is getting tossed aside for the sensationalist type of journalism. Mike

    1. I’m not against the news but i get so frustrated with what they pick as “top stories”. Like honestly pet news should not be on the 6 o’clock news, imo 😬
Pet stories should be on the pet news!

Same about FB. I keep it for the memories and bc it’s the only way I keep track of some old friends.
