What’s something different or new that you did this month.

My life is pretty boring and I like it that way. I’m not really a do’er of things or a go’er of places. Not as much as I used to be that’s for sure.

But this month, just this past week actually, I bit the bullet and put my name in to run for city council in my little northern city. There are thirteen candidates and eight spots. So, lots of competition.

Yesterday morning I was invited to attend City Hall where the elections officer was drawing names for how they will appear on the ballot.

I thought this was really cool. Never gave any thought before, as to how or why the names appear the way they do when you go to vote.

I was quite happy with alphabetical order because then my name was on top. Anyway, I got to meet some of the other candidates there. School board trustee candidates as well as one of the three mayoral candidates were in attendance.

So they did the draw for councillors, pulling names out of a hat, one by one. My name was drawn second. I was so excited. Second from the top, yay!

When they finished and were checking it over, they realized one name had been left out. One candidate. So they added that person and then had to start over with a new draw.

This time, my name was drawn last! My name will appear on the very bottom of the ballot. Which I was kind of disappointed in but nothing I can do. Hopefully voters will look for my name and not just tick off the first eight names they see.

I did already make it known when I shared the post on FB that people wanting to vote for me will find my name way down at the bottom.
