What’s a risk that paid off?

I’m not really one for deducing how risky something is or isn’t. If I want to do something, I usually go for it.

If I’m trying to decide on a decision and someone says ‘make a pros and cons list’, I roll my eyes.

I suppose being here, starting a blog, meant stepping out of the box for me. Not the writing and having the public read it part, but the fact that it’s called a “blog”. I don’t come from people who have blogs. And though it was Mom who kept nudging me to start a blog, now that I have, she warns me about sharing too much personal information with ‘strangers on the internet’.

The other thing that comes to mind when I think about risk-taking, (and people thought I was absolutely nuts for doing it by the way), was quitting my job where I had worked as a nurse for 24 years, giving up the seniority and paid vacation that comes with it, not to mention the annual bonuses we got every year, to take a term position (or contract basically) for one year as a college instructor.

The term position was extended to a permanent position thankfully, but had it not, and it had ended after one year, I guess I would have gone back to the Health Region for a job, but starting from square one, with no seniority hours or any vacation for a year. Also, back at the starting wage. Anyway, I never gave it a moment’s notice, didn’t bother even considering that might happen.

Not sure who to give credit to or where I even saw this but it was funny, why are people still choosing to get married??
Still embarrassed to be taking selfies, I know the kids will do it right out in the open and I admire their courage but I’ll only do it if nobody is around lol

  1. Thinking about it, it’s funny anyone would be embarrassed taking a selfie, when we’re often the most interesting feature in an area, and it’s going to get shared online for others to look at too.

    1. It’s definitely something to get used to, considering when i was a kid and growing up, selfies weren’t even a thing! I mean sure, we turned the camera backwards sometimes, hoping we were aiming in the right direction lol…but we wouldn’t find out for a couple of weeks til that roll of film was developed!

  2. I understand why people still marry (there are benefits!), but the fact that couples still dream about (and have) giant expensive weddings with money they don’t have is beyond me. Seems so short-sighted to blow your entire savings on one day. If rich parents are paying, I guess go ahead and throw a fun party that everyone will enjoy 🤷‍♀️

    1. Yes it’s so ridiculous Mary! Like give the $ to a charity instead of blowing it in one day!

  5. Wow, 24 years and all the perks, you are a risk taker! I’m glad it worked out for you. And I can maybe understand part of why you wanted the change. Nursing is a very difficult field and 24 years at it is a long time. And those 3 Covid years must have felt like 30. Nurses don’t get the respect they deserve.
